Somerset Bible Chapel

July 7 Sunday was the monthly Communion celebration in the morning worship service. (Next Sunday, July 14, the worship service will be at 11 am at Bay 5 campground in Stephenfield Park.)

Erik Picard read the announcements and was also the usher. Emery and Katie DeRoo served as the music team. Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus. Kevin Friesen and Clayton Kimber were the servers for communion.

The music, the communion meditation and the sermon all supported the theme of “Patience” one of the nine “Fruits of the Spirit”.

The singing included “Amazing Grace”, “Blessed Assurance”, “This is Amazing Grace” by Phil Wickham et al, “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin and “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”.

The Prayer Focus introduced the Sunday School ministry as the July Mission of the Month. Even though the classes are in summer recess, the Christian Education committee, the elders and the council look forward to the next season.

Pastor Jeff Peacock read 1 Corinthians 13 as part of his communion meditation on sacrificial love. Michelle Friesen read Galatians 5: 16-26.

Pastor Jeff outlined several aspects of Patience. The Greek word used is sometimes rendered as “long-suffering”, “forbearing” or “enduring”. God-given patience is not a muscle to flex but a matter of getting out of the way to let God work within.

Patience may involve dealing with difficult circumstances, difficult people or the sufferings God allows in making His children more like Him. Pastor Jeff spoke of refining agents acting as a hammer, file or furnace, figuratively speaking.

The closing song was “What He’s Done” and the blessing was Joshua 24:15 “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Day Camp 2024 is coming up for July 22-26 at the church. Registration is probably full. Volunteers for helpers and leaders are gradually coming into place. The sign-up sheet for afternoon snacks was circulated in the morning coffee time at a table of ladies!

Congratulations to the young people from Sunday School and Day Camp who have completed their school year. Several are graduating to the new schools and some have won awards for their school year.
